dear Mary. / Dressed myself very / fine at half past one. - take hat, / new umbrella, all the best things / I had - / at 2 - thunder, thundered & / lightening lightened - too late to / telegraph. / Rushed to your house in cab. / no you there - didn't know what / to do - rain poured down - spoilt / hat - partly rain spoilt it, partly / smashed in cab. / looked like home made hat when / came back. - / wondered what happened to you / and if you went - postman thought / babies had gone but you hadn't - were / lunching somewhere - didn't know / what to do - thought it was best to come / back - wasn't at all happy - / Those babies, did they really / go? / Oh! h! h! / and now you'll never make plans / with me again, 'cos I so unlucky. / Your poor friend / EB-J
